Ogunquit, which has a rich art history, is hosting its first Plein Air Painting Event in beautiful Perkins Cove on Saturday, September 11th with a rain date of Sunday, September 12th. The painting competition will be from 9am – 6pm with more than $1,500 in prize money, and a bunch of fresh Maine lobsters, awarded to both professional and amateur artists. David Lussier, an award-winning contemporary impressionist and nationally recognized plein air artist and instructor, will be a judge and provide a demonstration

IIn addition to seeing painters throughout Perkins Cove and the Marginal Way, the day will be filled with activities including live music, painting demonstrations, and historical art talks by members of the Woodbury family and Richard Perkins.  Spectators are invited to watch the painters create their masterpieces outdoors throughout the day in the plein air tradition.  There will be a “wet paint sale” and a display of their paintings in Perkins Cove from 4pm – 6pm.

Highlighted from 9:30 am – 12 noon will be a special plein air painting class for the Firemen of Ogunquit taught by Ogunquit Artist, Ric Della Bernarda.  At noon, a student a cappella group from Wells will sing the national anthem followed by a moment of silence to remember those lost on this somber day.

The Marginal Way

Enjoy an ocean-side walk with plenty of opportunities to sit and take in the gorgeous view. There may be no better place in Maine than along Ogunquit's Marginal Way. Only 1.25 miles long, the cliff walk wends its way starting at one end near The Sparhawk Oceanfront Resort on Shore Road and brings you along a paved path and rocky beaches to Perkins Cove, the center of the Plein Air Event
